With Frodo wounded, Aragorn and the Hobbits made haste to Rivendell knowing that Ringwraiths were pursuing them. The Elf Glorfindel drove the four pursuing Gandalf off the Last Bridge and then found the Hobbits and Aragorn. Taking Frodo onto his white horse, Asfaloth, they headed to Rivendell at great speed. Regrouping, the Nazgûl chased after him and Frodo until they reached the Ford of Bruinen, where the Nine demanded Frodo give them the Ring. Frodo refused and defied them. Provoked, the Nazgûl crossed the river to take the Ring by force.
