Gandalf the White holding staff, painted on wooden panel in Gouache in Greek Orthodox style.
The painting was sealed with antiquing varnish and ‘baked’ to add to the aged look.
One of my very earliest explorations linking Tolkien’s characters with Medieval iconography.
The connection between Gandalf and Moses came in a dream and was the catalyst that sent me off on my painted wandering through Middle Earth.
This remains one of my most popular images.
